NGO Slava Ukraini – overview of Activities in March

MTÜ Slava Ukraini will continue its activities, as the Russian war against Ukraine is still ongoing. We are fully dependent on donations to achieve our goals.

What has been achieved?

  • Since August 2023 we have acquired 33 ambulances, of which 31 have been passed on to the units.
  • We have acquired four ATVs with trailers and one trailer for a unit that already had an ATV at their disposal.
  • In the end of February we launched a campaign Every drop counts. EUR 4691,46 have been donated for this cause by the end of March.
  • We transferred the first sum of EUR 3200 to PULSE to buy the first piece of equipment for warming blood.
  • In March we collected EUR 8976,42 in donations.

Building guerilla ambulances

The guerilla ambulances are used to transport wounded soldiers from the front line to a safer location, where first aid can be given to them or they can be transported to a hospital with a regular ambulance. Guerilla ambulances are built for navigating difficult terrain.

It can happen that the landscape is too rough for the guerilla ambulances. It may also happen that there is no place where to take cover or that there’s a minefield at the location of the rescue. Because of that we have procured two ATV-s with a carrier to improve the flexibility and speed of conducting rescue missions.

From August of 2023 until today we have acquired 33 cars, of which  31 have been handed over. Five cars are awaiting final service repairs and rebuilding in Ukraine.

At the moment we’re still expecting the last invoices for rebuilding and service repairs from Ukraine. As per our experience this far, the average cost per vehicle is EUR 9000. The price includes a car, rebuilding it as a guerilla ambulance, maintenance repairs, supplying four new tyres, two spare tyres and the transport of the vehicle from a country of origins (usually Finland or Estonia) to Ukraine.

We’ve used Toyota Hiaces from early 2000s to build the guerilla ambulances, as this model has proved itself as a durable and reliable option. Unfortunately it is difficult by now to find those cars in satisfactory condition.

Thus we’re monitoring the car market, and we’ll buy cars for rebuilding only if something suitable would be available.

We have commited EUR 800 alongside each car we deliver for additional repairs, such as fixing shock absorbers or sending additional wheels. We have already funded the repairs for some of the cars.

In addition, we’ve acquired and handed over to the units four ATVs with trailers as well as one trailer (to complement the ATV the unit previously had). The cost for buying and handover per ATV with a trailer is EUR 7048 in average.

We’re thankful to all donators and volunteers who have helped us to send a good number of guerilla ambulances to the Ukrainian front line. To overcome the missing Hiaces on the market, we’re about to start a new project. We’ll tell you more soon.

Refrigerated vehicle

In the beginning of April we passed over the first refrigerated vehicle for transporting the dead bodies of fallen fighters. The car price, maintenance, transportation and tyres costed in total 10 257.35 euros.

Every drop counts

The campaign we started in February, Every drop counts, needs your donations. For the first EUR 3200 you’ve donated, we acquired equipment that helps to warm blood for PULSE. This raises the quality of their blood transfusion trainings significantly.

Donations

In February, EUR 8976,42 was donated to Slava Ukraini.

Since November last year, we belong to the list of charities who adopt the best practices for gathering donations (in Estonian).

There are still criminal procedures underway in both Estonia and Ukraine to shed light on how the donations were used before March 2023.

You can find our expense reports (in Estonian) on our website that we update monthly.

We are collecting donations for the following projects:

  • We continue to collect donations to acquire guerilla ambulances and 10 ATVs. Those vehicles are sorely needed at the front line to evacuate wounded soldiers quickly. Donations can be sent to EE727700771007665845 using “guerilla” as the reference.
  • In cooperation with our previous collaborator PULSE we would like to improve blood transfusion capabilities in front-line stabilizatoin points.Fast evacuation and a blood transfusion administered immediately after the blood loss increases survival rates. We aim to support up to four units. The total expense is EUR 236,750, which includes training the medics and supplying the equipment.  Donations can be sent to EE927700771008965285 using “veri” as the reference.
  • Two units have asked us for refrigerated vehicles that can transport the dead bodies of fallen fighters. One vehicle (including the car, maintenance, stretchers, tires and transport to Ukraine) costs EUR 12,111. Please help us supply the vehicles to the units! Using the donations from December and January we have purchased one refrigerated vehicle, but we rely on your continued support to procure the other one for the second unit. Donations can be sent to EE767700771008377365 using “külmik” as the reference.

All the listed expenses include operational costs which amount to approximately ten percent of the total.

Find out how to donate on our home page.

A big thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
